KENNESAW, GA (July 20, 2017) – On 20 July 2017, Systems Atlanta Inc. (SAI) and Version 2 (V2) announced a strategic partnership to address the growing need to be able to detect, identify, and track small Unmanned Aircraft System (sUAS) operating near airports throughout the United States.
In February 2017, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) released an updated list of potential encounters with unmanned aircraft systems (UAS)-more popularly called “drones”. The data covering February through September 2016, revealed a significant increase in the number of reports of possible drone sightings to FAA air traffic facilities. There were 1,274 such reports from February through September in 2016, compared with 874 for the same period in 2015. To further compound the potential threat, in its annual Aerospace Forecast Report for Fiscal Years 2017 to 2037, the FAA projects the small model hobbyist UAS fleet to more than triple in size from an estimated 1.1 million vehicles at the end of 2016 to more than 3.5 million units by 2021 and the commercial, non-hobbyist UAS fleet to grow from 42,000 at the end of 2016 to about 442,000 aircraft by 2021.
In an effort to combat this potential threat, SAI and V2 have partnered to integrate their core technologies to provide customers with a seamless solution to easily address the drone safety issues. V2’s Drone Sentry detection system is a sensor based system that uses multiple antennas to provide users with situational awareness of drones detected within the area. This information can then be integrated and displayed in SAI’s IDS (Integrated Display System) operational in over 450 U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Department of Defense (DoD) Air Traffic Control and Airport Operations facilities across the National Airspace System. Additionally, the integrated SAI and V2 solution can be installed at new locations to provide immediate access to, not only “drone” data, but a wide range of live, user inputted, and reference data, promoting safety and operational efficiency.
About Version 2
Version 2 specializes in the detection, identification and tracking of commercially available drones. Our technology is robust, modular and expandable for existing and future needs. Version 2 solutions are highly adaptable to be able to integrate with 3rd party display solutions improving flexibility and collaboration with both partners / end-users.
