FORT DRUM EXPANDS INFORMATION DISPLAY SYSTEM (IDS) OPERATIONS

ATLANTA, GA (May, 18, 2015) – Wheeler-Sack Army Airfield (AAF) located at Fort Drum, New York, has expanded their Army Airfield Automation System (AAAS) by adding additional workstations to their already robust IDS network. Including these add-on nodes, Wheeler-Sack AAF will now have thirty-four AAAS workstations spread amongst multiple facilities post wide. Some of the AAF locations that have AAAS capability are Air Traffic Control, Base Operations, Fire Station, Weather, Range Control, Flight Ops, and Fuels (POL) facilities.  AAAS is powered by SAI’s IDS5 software suite interconnected to multiple 3rd party source data systems culminating in an instantaneous view of the entire airfield picture.

Mr. Jeremy Tripp, the site’s AAAS Data Administrator states, “In our most recent expansion, we have included the 174th Attack Wing Air Force Detachment and POL/Transient alert. The 174th can now keep everyone up to speed on the incoming Air Force fighters for the day and POL can now share detailed fuel usage reports and truck status with airfield management, as well as benefit from having upcoming flight information.”

IDS5 augments critical data sharing among separate agencies and is a system of workstations connected by a communications network to distribute and display static and real-time data. IDS5 acts as an electronic binder, providing immediate access to a wide range of operational information and support data; promoting the safety and efficiency of operations. Operators have immediate access to large quantities of information that they would otherwise obtain from printed reference materials. IDS5 de-clutters the work environment by displaying a wide variety of data from multiple sources onto a single display to increase situational awareness and reduce required work space. IDS5 further improves work-place efficiency through an intuitive Graphical User Interface (GUI) which minimizes operator actions.
