Airport/Airline Information Management

Systems Atlanta's advanced Integrated Data Display and Dissemination System is available today for the aviation industry. IDS5-AIM, powered by SAI’s advanced IDS5 technology, provides information management for Airport/Airline Operation Centers.
  • IDS5-AIM is specifically designed to meet the information needs of aviation support facilities, such as Airport Control Centers (ACC), Airport Operations Centers (AOC), Emergency Operations Centers (EOC), and Automated Flight Service Stations (AFSS).
  • IDS5-AIM can include, but is not limited to, operational data, aircraft and flight information, documents, publications, maps, charts, checklists, and real-time wind/weather data.
  • IDS5-AIM combines external source data with manual and reference data onto a single display platform.
  • IDS5-AIM distributes the combined data throughout a network of workstations and facilities to enhance operational efficiency and situational awareness.

IDS5-AIM in the field

On April 20, 2006, the dedication of the new state-of-the-art Airport Operations Center (AOC) at Dallas-Ft. Worth (DFW) International Airport occurred. This impressive new facility houses a co-located Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The AOC/EOC utilizes Systems Atlanta’s IDS5-Airport Information Management (AIM) software, which the AOC Administrator describes as the “backbone” for the various software applications used within the facility. IDS5-AIM serves as the integration and launching platform for weather, emergency, and operational information.

Having experienced the capabilities of IDS5-AIM in their previous facility, DFW chose to expand the system for their new AOC, increasing the number of workstations and fielding the latest software enhancements. IDS5-AIM provides a valuable tool during airport emergency response. During emergencies, AOC personnel continuously use IDS5 for immediate access to emergency contacts, procedures, checklists, diagrams, and other software applications. IDS-AIM promotes rapid data retrieval and timeliness of response during the emergencies and other situations where timely action is required.

The expanded IDS5-AIM network system at DFW now encompasses the AOC, EOC, and Airport Management facilities. IDS5-AIM also interfaces with the FAA’s ACE-IDS system, which provides Systems Atlanta’s IDS5 software for DFW’s air traffic control towers and TRACON facilities. This interface automates information sharing between ATC and airport operations without compromising security. Timely information flow is crucial to emergency response, but it also promotes safety and efficiency during normal operations. Using IDS5-AIM in DFW’s new combined AOC/EOC ensures that personnel have immediate access to vital information with rapid update, alert, and response capability.

IDS5-AIM is a software product of Systems Atlanta, Inc. IDS-AIM packages the features and capabilities of Systems Atlanta’s latest IDS5 software version to meet the information needs of airport and airline operation facilities.

Las Vegas McCarran International Airport Operations (LAS) implemented an AIM system consisting of 6 workstations, 2 each in the East West Ramp Towers, one System Administrator position, and one in the Airport Operations Center (AOC) displayed on a large 42” LCD screen. The airport’s IDS5 system is interfaced to the FAA’s IDS4 system in the Las Vegas Tower and TRACON. An AOC Supervisor was very complimentary of the system, saying “It [IDS5-AIM] is the most user friendly, fastest reference tool I have ever used—provides instant access to information and can be customized to facility needs!” At McCarran, the AOC handles police dispatching as well as aviation operation and the system has proven very useful for both types of activities.

Features & Capabilities

Displays reference, manually entered, and external source data via a common set of display pages.

Allows creation and customization of up to 100 million screen-sized “pages” for data display. Each page may contain an indefinite number of textual, image, or graphical objects, including hyperlinks to other locations within the database.

Supports data inclusion in several forms, including text, images, and PDF files.

Automation can be used to update the extensive library of documentation that the database may contain.

Connects an unlimited number of IDS5-AIM workstations within a single facility, throughout an airport, and/or within a variety of remote facilities located over a wide geographical area.

Provides immediate distribution of data from multiple sources over an entire network of workstations and/or facilities.

Stores and instantaneously updates data on each workstation, ensuring fast access times and a high level of data integrity.

Supports visual and audible alerts based on changes to critical data, as defined by the user.

Supports touch screen, trackball, and mouse capabilities.

Allows interface with the FAA’s ACE-IDS and IDS4 systems for information exchange.
