SAI Provides IDS5 Digital ATIS for Bicycle Lake AAF

Atlanta, GA (April 15th, 2014) – Systems Atlanta, Inc. (SAI) installed an IDS5 Digital Automated Terminal Information Service (DATIS) system in the Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) located at Bicycle Lake Army Airfield (AAF), Ft. Irwin, CA. Deployed on existing IDS5 hardware, the IDS5 DATIS system has direct communication with the existing IDS5 workstations deployed under the U.S. Army Airfield Automation System (AAAS) program. SAI also provided on-site installation and training for Bicycle Lake AAF Air Traffic Control (ATC) personnel.

The IDS5 Digital ATIS system and IDS5 Digital ATIS Interface provides a means of automatically transferring Bicycle Lake AAF’s weather from a certified weather source into the IDS5 Digital ATIS system. As the primary display of Joint Environmental Toolkit (JET) weather information in Air Force and Army facilities, IDS5 provides a means of automatically gathering Bicycle Lake AAF’s weather information as it is updated in “real-time” and instantly making it available across the IDS5 network. The IDS5 Digital ATIS Interface transfers the weather information received from the local weather source to the IDS5 Digital ATIS system.

The IDS5 Digital ATIS system is launched from within IDS5 making it easily accessible by Air Traffic Controllers. The message is converted to speech using STR-SpeechTech’s advanced text-to-speech technology that uses a natural speaking voice versus a computer generated voice. IDS5 Digital ATIS messages are created and broadcast in a fraction of the time it takes to manually type or record a new message. SAI’s IDS5 Digital ATIS solution utilizes the Army Local Area Network (LAN) alleviating the “direct connection” distance restrictions between the IDS5 workstation and the radio transmitters. Supporting local military flying units, ATC must have up-to-date information pertaining to the airfield weather conditions. IDS5 provides constant updates of real-time information for ATC personnel. The IDS5 Digital ATIS system allows ATC to instantly provide critical information to all aircraft by means of an automated, digital broadcast.
